Osrblie: Biathlon, Culture and Nature in Slovakia

Sport and Winter Biathlon

The Osrblie National Biathlon Centre belongs to the municipality of Osrblie and offers year-round training conditions for active athletes, amateurs and the general public interested in sports. The Roman Catholic Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a religious monument in Osrblie. Its history predates the present building: the church was rebuilt from an older religious structure in 1935. Inside is a wooden sculpture of the Madonna and Child dating from the second half of the 15th century.

The local history also includes the Tri Vody site. There, the remains of a charcoal-fired blast furnace built in 1795 commemorate Osrblie’s significant ironmaking history. On the summit of Štompová skala, members of the Osrblie Volunteer Fire Brigade erected a cross as a memorial and as a protective symbol against the destructive power of nature.
