In Žibritov, the “Žibritovský náučný chodník” educational trail begins at the tourist trail junction and leads downhill through the Bebrava Valley to Štangarígeľ. In summer, this educational trail cannot be walked along its entire length because of the fencing of grazing areas beyond its Station 2.

Nature

In the vicinity of Žibritov lies the protected natural monument Sixova stráň near Krupinské bralce. It features a rare columnar separation of pyroxene andesite into five- to six-sided columns, whose upper part is bent into a hook shape. The protected natural monument Krupinské bralce consists of a series of andesite columns with an adjoining scree slope. A small pond near Žibritov is also suitable for a short rest.

Trails

The blue-marked trail from Žibritov to the memorial to forester Ing. Albert Macko below Buzalkový vrch is 1.6 km long and has an elevation difference of 160 m. Ing. Albert Macko lived from 1951 to 2010. The signposted cycle routes include the yellow-marked Sv. Anton–Žibritov route. Another cycle route runs for 27.6 km from Krupina via Štangarígeľ to Žibritov. It runs mainly along paved forest roads marked with green cycle-tourism signs. Thus, different types of routes are found side by side: the educational trail leading downhill, a blue-marked ascent to a memorial, and cycle routes marked in yellow and green.

Culture

Žibritov has preserved an ensemble of traditional vernacular, masonry, single-storey houses with several rooms and rectangular floor plans; several of them are protected heritage monuments. The village is also connected with film history: exterior shots for the first Slovak-Hungarian co-production film, “Dáždnik svätého Petra,” were filmed in Žibritov and its surroundings in 1958.

The preserved cylindrical bastion in Žibritov is a remnant of the fortified medieval Church of Saint Ladislaus. The bastion was later used as a bell tower. The Evangelical church in Žibritov is a Classicist building dating from 1838; the tower was built later. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

Food and Wine

On the southern slope of Veinperg (Viničný vrch) above the valley of the Bebrava stream, Žibritov has working vineyards with grapevines whose roots are more than 70 years old. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 460 to 485 m.

The regularly held “Podsitnianske dni hojnosti” event is listed in Žibritov for July, as well as in Baďan, Prenčov, Žibritov or Kráľovce-Krnišov. Traditional craft demonstrations and regional specialities are mentioned, including homemade bread baked in an oven, Podymníky, Osúchy, yeast cakes, Pagáče, Lokše, Šúľance, Párance, Lekvárové buchty, wild boar goulash, homemade grilled sausages, suckling pig and homemade schnapps.
