Súdovce: Wine, Culture and Nature – Find Hotels

Súdovce combines landscapes, historical traces, winegrowing and tangible experiences in a compact local profile. Between the Veperec Valley, protected natural features, churches and vineyards, there are many different starting points for planning a trip. The Súdovská Cycling Route also passes through the village, connecting it with Dudince and Lišov.

Culture

The historical setting of Súdovce includes the former park of the manor house. In 1884, it received an award at the World Exhibition in Budapest. Only part of the south wing of the manor house itself remains. West of the houses, red-fired clay remains can be seen in ploughed soil. South of Súdovce, the so-called Spečený val has also been documented over a length of 1.4 km.

The Evangelical church in Súdovce was built in 1932. Inside, it has a neoclassical altar with a painting by D. Šuba from 1932 depicting Jesus on the Mount of Olives. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. Separate from it stands the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which dates from 1999.

Nature

Súdovce lies in the valley of the Veperec stream on the southwestern edge of the Krupinská planina. A distinctive natural feature of the village is the Ginkgo biloba: the tree is legally protected and estimated to be around 260 years old. The ginkgo was formerly part of a park with a manor house.

At Vinica Jerusalem, the horizon extends beyond Hontianske Moravce and along the Ipeľ as far as the Börzsöny Mountains in Hungary. This broad landscape outlook is therefore also one of Súdovce’s tangible local features.

Wine and Products

Historically, winegrowing was the most important local activity in Súdovce, as shown by the municipal seal from 1668. The vineyards are concentrated around the village in the Chrástavky and Zajfrtky areas. A new vineyard with a wine cellar has been established in Borháze.

The current range of regional products includes at least 14 types of oil and four varieties of homemade mustard, as well as other self-produced goods. In Súdovce, a guided tour of the production process with live pressing is available. Guided tastings of the producers’ own products are also held. Alongside the historic winegrowing tradition, other homemade specialities and their respective production and tasting options are therefore also a focus.

Things to Do

The Súdovská Cycling Route runs from Dudince via Lišov and Súdovce back to Dudince. It is 33 km long and is considered one of the more challenging routes. Along the way, it offers viewpoints at Staré vinice, Berený háj and Kôrčiny. The route’s course, length and classification give it a clearly defined profile, while the viewpoints mentioned take in the landscape around Súdovce.
