Culture and History

The church in Ladzany was built at the beginning of the 13th century, reconstructed in the first half of the 15th century and is evangelical today. Inside, there is a Gothic baptismal font and a Renaissance painting from the second half of the 16th century. The fortified grounds of the medieval church also include a wooden bell tower, built in 1697. It stands next to the masonry entrance gate.

Another historic site is located in the Biele Dráhy area near Ladzany. There are wine cellars carved into tuff rock. Some cellars retain foundation stones on the end wall, bearing the date of construction and the name of the owner. Others feature preserved oak entrance doors made without a single nail. The historic wine cellars once served the residents as protection from attacks by the Ottomans.

Ladzany lies at the foot of the Štiavnické vrchy in the valley of the Klastavský potok. The southeastern part of the cadastral territory of Ladzany extends into the Krupinská vrchovina. Part of the cadastral territory lies within the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The local landscape also includes the Tlstý vrch locality in the cadastral territory of Ladzany; it belongs to the category of Sites of Community Importance.

Local Traditions

The “Jablková chuť Hontu po Ladziansky” event takes place in Ladzany every year. It is dedicated to fruit growing and the preparation of various culinary specialties. An orchard in the cadastral territory of Ladzany preserves the original apple gene pool of this area. At the “Tradičná chuť Hontu” competition in Ladzany on September 12, 2026, the focus will be on cooking traditional dishes, gastronomy, culture and folk crafts.
