Drienovo: Geotope, History and Hotels
Drienovo combines landscape and local history. The village can be explored through its geological formations, historical name, former occupations, Evangelical church, Ján Rotarides, and a specific hiking route. Geology, name history, occupations, church, and hiking route each provide different perspectives on the village.
Nature
The Drieňovo – Gašparov výšok geotope consists of chaotic breccias from a pyroclastic flow of the Čelovce pyroclastic volcano.
Drienovo lies in the southwestern part of the Krupinská výšina, which consists of tuffitic, mostly coarse-grained andesitic deposits. The location and underlying geology are thus described within the same landscape.
The ridge of Drienovo drops steeply into the deep valley of the Litava. The steep slopes of the valleys near Drienovo are predominantly covered with oak forest.
History
Drienovo is documented as Drino as early as 1256 and was renamed Drienovo in 1773. Historical occupations in Drienovo included agriculture and viticulture.
Ján Rotarides worked as a teacher in Drienovo from 1856 to 1896. He is buried in the local cemetery of Drienovo, and his grave is maintained by the inhabitants of Drienovo. During the Slovak National Uprising, a partisan group under Major MIRONOV was stationed in a building in Drienovo.
Church
The Evangelical church of Drienovo was built in 1906–1907 in the Historicist style on the site of a church dating from 1773. Its inventory includes a Baroque chalice from 1722.
The Evangelical church of Drienovo is in good condition and serves its religious purpose.
Hiking
The hiking route from Dudince via Plášťovce, Litava, and Senohrad passes through Hlašťovina and Drienovo before continuing to Malá Tabla. In this sequence, Drienovo lies between Hlašťovina and Malá Tabla. The route therefore names both the places before and after Drienovo, as well as its further course to Malá Tabla.
