Mýtna combines cultural heritage, waterscapes and village traditions. The place can be viewed from several perspectives: architectural history, nature by the water, transport connections and customs form clearly distinguishable themes. Together, they create a multifaceted picture that places specific features of the locality at the center.

Culture and History

The evangelical church with fortifications in Mýtna is listed in the Slovak heritage register. It is located in a fortified area on a hill between villages. Inside, a wooden altar and a wooden pulpit from 1772 have been preserved. The fortifications include a wooden Baroque bell tower from the second half of the 18th century with a square floor plan. The bells preserved today date from 1923. The church interior, fortifications, tower and bells thus form the individual architectural and chronological elements of this place.

Water and Nature

The Mýtna Water Reservoir covers 38 hectares and is located above Mýtna in the direction of Zvolen. Alder forests grow along the edge of the Mýtna Water Reservoir in the floodplain of the Krivánsky Stream. Crayfish, grass snakes and brown trout are found in the Krivánsky Stream. The Mýtna Water Reservoir is frequently visited by keen anglers. The landscape therefore includes the water surface, the floodplain area with its alder forests and the stream with the animal species mentioned, as well as visits by anglers.

Location and Transport

Mýtna lies on the I/50 main road. The village also has a railway stop on railway line 160. The road and railway are therefore two explicitly named transport connections of Mýtna, complementing the locality's cultural and landscape features with a transport perspective.

Customs

As part of the Morena tradition in Mýtna, children carry a handmade traditional figure symbolizing winter in a procession to a stream. The traditional carrying out of Morena and welcoming of spring was scheduled for March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the village square in Mýtna. In this custom, the figure, its symbolism of winter, the procession to the stream and the welcoming of spring are interconnected.
