Halič: Cultural Monuments, Museum and Nature

Haličský zámok is a national cultural monument. Guided tours of Haličský zámok include a visit to the representative Župná sieň with its original fresco decoration on the ceiling dating from 1762. Public tours take place on Sundays and Mondays at 13:00, 14:30 and 16:00; each tour requires at least six people.

Culture

The Múzeum Csontváry is dedicated to the life and work of the painter T. K. Csontváry, as well as the history of Halič and its surroundings. Its exhibits include large-format projections, touchscreens featuring works and historical documents, a hologram of the Halič treasure and a virtual potter’s wheel. The museum can be visited during opening hours; larger groups should register in advance.

The tomb of the Forgách family is a Neo-Romanesque funerary chapel dating from 1844. Its design was inspired by structures of Egyptian pyramids. The tomb consists of limestone sections that were precisely worked before being transported to their destination.

Other buildings also tell of the history of the place. The Roman Catholic Church of Nájdenia sv. Kríža is a national cultural monument and a Neoclassical single-nave church dating from around 1826. The former cloth manufactory building is a Neoclassical structure from the early 19th century that was extended and remodelled around 1830. The first mechanical loom in Slovakia was installed in the former Halič cloth manufactory in 1867. The Soľný úrad is a Baroque-Neoclassical building from the late 18th century; its arched gateway dates from 1768.

The restored Strážny domček houses a small railway exhibition and a scale model of the railway station in TT scale. Both are open to the public.

Nature

Haličský lesopark is a protected natural monument. It was originally laid out in the French style; it was later expanded with naturalistic areas and a lake. As a result, different forms of landscaped and naturalistic scenery stand alongside one another in the townscape.

In Zámocký park, picnics and boat trips under a romantic bridge to an original island are possible. Zámocký rybník with Altánok Filagória has a picturesque island and beach loungers. Zámocký park also offers opportunities for cycling and recreational fishing.

Halič lies in the northwestern part of the Lučenecká kotlina, in the valley of the Tuhársky potok, at an elevation of 267 metres.
