In Lučenec District, tangible cultural monuments, museums, castles and natural attractions stand side by side. In Halič, Halič Castle is a national cultural monument; the Forgách family crypt commemorates Antal Forgách and Johanna Forgách.

Culture and history
The Csontváry Museum in Halič presents the life and work of T. K. Csontváry. It offers interactive multimedia exhibitions with large-screen projections, touchscreens, a hologram and a virtual potter’s wheel.
The Novohrad Museum and Gallery in Lučenec display folk ceramics from Halič, historic glassware from Lučenec, as well as enamelled objects from the now-closed enamelling works in Lučenec and Fiľakovo. Furniture from Halič Castle is also on display there.
The restored synagogue in Lučenec is used as a multicultural space and offers visitors expert explanations of the building’s history and restoration. It was the last monumental work of the architect L. Baumhorn.
Divín Castle has been a ruin since its destruction by imperial troops in 1679. Zichy Mansion in Divín houses several exhibitions about the castle owners, hunting trophies and the history of mining.
Nature and water
The Šomoška National Nature Reserve protects a basalt formation with hexagonal columnar jointing known as the “Stone Waterfall”. The Šomoška educational trail is 1,600 metres long and has six information boards or stations.
The Ružiná Reservoir is a breeding ground for many protected waterbird species. The meanders of the Ipeľ River, with floodplain forests and meadows, offer opportunities for canoeing and kayaking.
Routes and access
Pedestrian access to Fiľakovo Castle is from Podhradská Street. Vehicle access to Fiľakovo Castle is via Baštová Street.
The educational trail on the castle hill of Hajnáčka begins at the old bell tower and leads along Castle Road to the castle.
Fruit, vegetables and other agricultural products are sold at the town market in Lučenec.
