The Točnica stream flows through Točnica. Its meandering course, with remnants of an old oak forest, is designated as a protected natural site because of its high biological and aesthetic value. A stork nest on a post is considered an annual attraction in Točnica. Culture

Točnica is home to a Neoclassical Protestant church dating from 1806. It houses an organ built in 1912 by Rieger Ottó – Budapest, which has been preserved without later alterations and is currently not functional. The wooden bell tower was made in 1791. According to the school chronicle, it was moved to its present location on wooden rollers in 1873. The church, its organ and the bell tower thus preserve different dates and recorded details.

The former Protestant school building dating from 1770 is one of Točnica’s cultural monuments. A Catholic church rebuilt in 2008 stands next to it. A memorial plaque dedicated to the poet Koloman Banšell was unveiled in Točnica in 1969; Točnica is also the poet’s birthplace. A hillfort of the Bronze Age Kyjatice culture was also discovered in the village. The local landscape thus records ecclesiastical buildings and a former school building, as well as a memorial and an archaeological find.

History

The historical references reach back to several early settlement phases. Točnica is recorded as a settlement site of the Late Neolithic, dating to around 6,000 BC. Točnica is also recorded as a settlement site of the Middle Eneolithic, dating to around 4,000 BC. Traditional occupations of the inhabitants of Točnica included wheelwrighting and cooperage. The history of the village thus links recorded early settlement sites with the traditional occupations of its inhabitants.

Annual Events

In Točnica, both the raising and the felling of the Maypole are held every year. A Midsummer bonfire is also held annually. In addition, an annual goulash-cooking competition takes place. October is observed each year as a month of appreciation for older people. Thus, the annual calendar features different forms of community events side by side, from the Maypole tradition to the culinary competition and the appreciation of older people.
