Hotels in Lučenec: Culture and Nature

Kubínyiho Square forms the historic centre and conservation area of Lučenec. Numerous original burgher houses and historic buildings have been preserved, including two churches, the Reduta and the town hall.

Culture

One of the prominent buildings is the Lučenec Synagogue. Its style combines Byzantine-Oriental elements with Art Nouveau, while the interior is dominated by a monumental dome. The synagogue is a national cultural monument and part of the Slovak Jewish Heritage Route. Following its reconstruction, it was opened to the public as a multicultural space in May 2016; it also serves cultural and social purposes.

The town hall houses the Lučenec Town Museum and is also a national cultural monument. The permanent exhibitions cover the history of the town, the life of the bourgeoisie, the production of factories and artisans, the education of earlier generations, and living conditions in the first half of the 20th century. This thematic range is complemented by works by the painter František Gyurkovits.

The Novohrad Museum and Gallery have been located since 1985 in the listed building of the former county court in the historic centre of Lučenec. The institution manages more than 25,000 archaeological, ethnological, historical and gallery collection objects, including folk pottery, enamelware and historic glass. The Novohrad Museum is also presented with a particular focus on folk pottery and glass.

At the northern edge of Kubínyiho Square stands the neo-Gothic Calvinist, or Reformed, Church of Lučenec. Its 64-metre-high tower was completed in 1896. The Reformed Christian Church in Slovakia, Lučenec congregation, took the building back under its administration in 2005; services are held there.

The Július Szabó Memorial House was established in 2008 in the villa in Lučenec park where the artist lived. Works by the artist from up to the 1960s, covering various themes and using different techniques, are displayed there. A historic building was ceremonially opened to the public on 9 December 1993 and has served as a congress centre since 1994.

Nature

Lučenec City Park covers 17 hectares and is designed in three garden styles. A hiking trail and two cycle routes run through the park, connecting it with the surrounding region. One of these routes leads from the city park through Lučenec–Ľadovo Park and other places to Ipolytarnóc.

The Ľadovo water reservoir lies on the Tuhárský potok stream in the cadastral area of the town of Lučenec. It covers 26.2 hectares and is used for recreation and sport fishing in summer. The Lučenec Forest Park offers visitors two recreational zones and two cycle routes with a total length of 10.15 kilometres. One of the cycle routes includes a 360-metre-long educational trail with three stops and information panels.

Trails and Activities

The Lučenec urban forest park has Nordic walking routes measuring 1.0 and 3.0 kilometres. They can be enjoyed by people of all age groups. In addition to the trails through the city park and the educational trail in the forest park, routes of various lengths for Nordic walking are therefore available within the town.

Getting There

Lučenec railway station provides assistance to and from the platform and to and from the trains, including boarding assistance without prior registration. It also has step-free access and level access for wheelchair users.
