Kaštieľ Coburgovcov is a unique building in the French Neoclassical style in historic Gemer.
History
Jelšava Castle is located in the cadastral territory of the town of Jelšava, 3 kilometres west of the town centre, on a spur of the Revúcka vrchovina hills. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it was the centre of the Jelšava estate. The original castle was probably built in the 1330s and had a dominant castle tower and a palace building on the opposite side of the complex.
Kaštieľ Coburgovcov is a three-storey building dating from 1763, added to an older Renaissance building from the early 17th century on the site of a presumed Templar monastery. Since 2015, the town of Jelšava has been carrying out conservation and restoration work on Kaštieľ Coburgovcov and makes it accessible to the public during cultural events.
Culture
The Kaštieľ Coburgov Jelšava Information Centre offers guided tours of the manor house and the town from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 and 16:00. The destinations included in the tours include the Jelšava Museum and the Evangelical Church of Jelšava.
The Jelšava Town Museum presents an exhibition on local bell-making. In the 19th century, Jelšava had up to 40 bell-making workshops. The Church of St Peter and Paul in Jelšava has a Neoclassical organ dating from 1865.

The mountain scooter descent begins at a forest-road junction below Hotel Hrádok. There, staff brief participants and provide helmets. The ride usually ends at the beginning of 9. mája Street on the outskirts of the town. The mountain scooter descent is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over.
