Muránska Zdychava: Hotels, Hiking Trails and Folk Architecture
Muránska Zdychava combines clearly recognizable settlement and folk architecture with a network of specifically named trails. This character is particularly evident in the original wooden houses of Kokavka, at the Ľudový dom, and along the routes connecting the village with other waypoints and with the access points to the actual area of Muránska planina National Park near Predná Hora.
History and Architectural Heritage
The settlement was established in connection with the Vlach colonization. The name Muránska Zdychava first appears in written sources in 1611. Several original wooden houses have been preserved, especially in the village of Kokavka. The village landscape also includes the dispersed settlement pattern typical of Kopaničiarska settlements, which is a characteristic feature of Muránska Zdychava. The settlement's history, the history of its name and the preserved building form are thus clearly connected spatially.
The Ľudový dom is open to visitors and tourists interested in the folk architecture of the Middle Gemer region. The well-maintained wooden house contains an exhibition with original traditional interior furnishings. The view of the region's architectural heritage therefore extends beyond the external form of the houses to include the traditional design of their interiors.
Nature
Zdychavské skalky is located within the cadastral area of the municipality of Muránska Zdychava. The protected area covers 25,400 m². Both the name and the protection status apply directly to this area within the municipality's cadastral area.
Hiking Routes
A green-marked route is named Červená Skala–Muránska Zdychava and bears number 5739. It passes through Strateník, Šumiacka priehyba, Severná lúka, Chata Janka and Horáreň Karafová before reaching Muránska Zdychava. The route is 21 km long and is maintained by KST. Its course is therefore clearly defined by its starting point, the named intermediate stations and its endpoint.
Another route runs from Muránska Huta to Muránska Zdychava. It is 6.0 km long and reaches Muránska Zdychava at its endpoint; it also bears number 2869 and is maintained by KST. These details clearly distinguish this connection from the longer route starting in Červená Skala.
Trail Connections
Muránska Zdychava is a hub for trails connected to the access points to the actual area of the national park near Predná Hora. Muránska Zdychava and Muránska Huta are considered the last municipalities for developing hiking infrastructure along the Rudná magistrála.
The Rudná magistrála is a hiking trail in central Slovakia. It connects Zlaté Moravce, Banská Štiavnica and Detva with the Muránska planina National Park area and ends at Mount Stolica. Together with the two routes mentioned above, it forms a clearly defined network of local connections and a long-distance hiking trail.
