Muránska Huta: Circular Hike, Waterfalls and National Park

A circular hike from Muránska Huta to Muránsky Castle begins and ends in Muránska Huta. It is 12 km long, covers an elevation gain of 565 m and takes about four hours. The starting point is at Bobačka Waterfall, also called Hutnícky Waterfall, above the village. The route therefore combines a fixed starting and ending point with a named natural destination and a clearly defined time and physical scope.

Nature

The cadastral area of Muránska Huta is part of Muránska planina National Park, which has existed since 23 September 1997. Hutniansky Waterfall is located on the state road from Červená Skala to Muráň, immediately behind the Muránska Huta bus stop. It can be reached by bus from Muráň or Červená Skala.

Bobačka Cave is a national natural monument. It has more than five kilometres of underground passages with rich sinter formations. The water from Bobačka Cave flows through the forest for about 500 metres and forms a waterfall about three metres high at the road. Thus, the range of named natural features extends from underground passages to a watercourse that becomes visible as a waterfall at the road.

Activities

From Muránska Huta, it is possible to go hiking and cycling in a national park. The Pod Planinou Riding Club offers horse riding in the natural surroundings of a national park and the Stolické vrchy mountains. For those who do not ride, the Pod Planinou Riding Club offers rides through nature. In addition to paths through the national park, horse-riding options and trail rides are therefore also part of the village’s explicitly mentioned range of activities.

History

Muránska Huta was established in 1652 together with a glassworks. In the 1860s, a hammer mill called “klinčiareň” operated in Muránska Huta, producing nails for shingles. The historical milestones are separated in time and each identifies a specific economic context: first, the settlement’s establishment together with a glassworks, and later the production of shingle nails in a hammer mill.
