Višňové can be explored through three clearly identifiable aspects: the Reformed Church, local history and the landscape. The Reformed Church is the municipality’s only cultural monument. It is a single-nave Classicalist building with a segmental termination and an attached tower, dating from 1834. Inside, there is a Prussian vault and a wooden Protestant gallery with painted panels featuring plant motifs. The tower has a wooden arcade and is topped by a Baroque cupola. The architectural details are thus distributed across the building, interior and tower.

History

The history of the settlement can also be traced through a sequence of historical forms of its name. Višňové has been documented under historical forms of its name since 1296: Wysnow (1296), Visnyo, Wisnyo and Wysnyo (1328), Wysnye (1487), Wissnowa (1773) and Višňové (1920). From 1938 to 1945, Višňové was annexed to Hungary. Historically, the inhabitants of Višňové were engaged in livestock breeding and transport by horse-drawn vehicles. The history of the name, political affiliation and former occupations represent different aspects of the settlement’s history.

Landscape

Several geographical relationships become apparent when considering the area. Višňové lies at the transition between the southern foothills of the Revúcka vrchovina and the Juhoslovenská kotlina. In the southern part of the district, the settlement lies on the left bank of the Turiec. In the Slovenský kras, Višňové is situated on a terrace surface in the valley of the Západný Turiec and Drieňovský potok. The predominantly hilly surface of Višňové’s cadastral territory consists of limestone and andesitic pyroclastics. Only the eastern part of Višňové’s cadastral territory is forested with oak woodland. The geographical view thus extends from larger landscape areas through valley and riverbank relationships to the composition of the cadastral territory.
