Water and Nature

At the Morské oko open-air swimming pool in Tornaľa, untreated mineral water flows directly from the Morské oko spring; without chemical treatment, it is suitable for swimming. The water there is particularly suitable for intensive swimming and hydrokinesiotherapy with a trainer. The facility covers just under 2 hectares.

As an artesian groundwater outflow, Morské oko has formed a natural crater with a diameter of 60 meters. Within it lies a 38-meter-deep flooded fissure. Cave divers from across Central Europe meet at this natural formation.

Zoltánka City Park lies on the outskirts of Tornaľa and serves as a recreational area. Its history dates back to the 13th century. The park contains two plane trees estimated to be around 350 years old. A replica of a small castle also stands there on a rocky outcrop.

Culture and Architectural History

The Reformed Church in Tornaľa is a single-nave, originally Gothic building with a polygonal termination and an attached tower dating from the 15th century. The Reformed Church in the Králik district is also single-nave and originally Early Gothic; its polygonal termination and attached tower date from around 1300.

The Roman Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Tornaľa is a single-nave Neo-Gothic building with a polygonal termination of the presbytery and an attached tower dating from 1931. The Evangelical Church in Tornaľa was built as a single-nave Functionalist structure with a semicircular termination of the presbytery and an attached tower in 1932 and 1933.

The four churches represent different construction phases and architectural styles within Tornaľa. Gothic and Early Gothic origins stand alongside Neo-Gothic and Functionalist forms. The dates therefore range from the Middle Ages to the first half of the 20th century, while single-nave layouts and attached towers recur several times.

Regular cultural events in Tornaľa include the Days of Hungarian Culture in January. The municipal markets in Tornaľa are listed for April, October and December. The cultural summer known as Tornaľské kultúrne leto is held regularly from April to October.

The Day of Traditions, an international folklore festival in Tornaľa, is scheduled for October. The Tornaľský pivný festival beer festival, also called Tornaljai sörfesztivált, is scheduled for September.
