Revúcka Lehota: Hotel, Miková Reservoir and Cultural History

Revúcka Lehota is located in the southeast of the Slovak Ore Mountains, on the left side of the Muránska Valley. Most of its cadastral territory extends across a terraced upland that transitions in the north into narrow stretches of hilly terrain and lower mountain areas. As a result, different landforms meet in the landscape, while the surrounding forests consist predominantly of beech trees mixed with birch, oak and hornbeam.

Water

The Miková Reservoir is located in the cadastral territory of Revúcka Lehota and is used for recreational purposes and fishing. The upper part of the reservoir, located at the inflow, is designated as a CHRO; fishing is prohibited there year-round.

Culture

The settlement was established around the 14th century under Wallachian law. Historically, the inhabitants of Revúcka Lehota were engaged in livestock farming. The village is also one of the places with a tradition of producing linen and cloth. Earlier activities also included charcoal burning; traditionally, homemade fruit brandy was distilled as well.

The Evangelical church in Revúcka Lehota was completed and consecrated in 1793. It is the only cultural monument in Revúcka Lehota and has a Rococo altar with a pulpit dating from the second half of the 18th century. There is also a monument to the victims of the Second World War in the village. In the 19th century, Podhorie had a blast furnace.

Events

Revúcka Lehota has a long tradition of hosting a table tennis tournament; the 2023 edition was the 28th event. On 13 May 2023, the village commemorated the 78th anniversary of the end of the Second World War with a traditional bonfire at Dolinka.

On 1 July 2023, a Children's Day and a Sports Day were traditionally held on the local football pitch. The programme included games and competitions for children, as well as volleyball, shooting at goal, throwing a rolling pin for distance and tug-of-war for adults. Martinská zábava is considered an old tradition in Revúcka Lehota. On 11 November 2023, it featured live music by the Relax group from Vlachovo, two dinners and a raffle.

Revúcka Lehota has a bus station. Public transport also includes intercity bus services.
