Hotels in Cakov: Šťavica Spring and Churches
Cakov is located in the Rimavská kotlina basin on the floodplain of the Blh. The village combines this landscape setting with the Šťavica Spring, named points in the surrounding area, and two churches from different periods of construction. Its history dates back at least to the 13th century; Cakov has been documented in records since 1395.
Landscape and Location
On the southeastern edge of Cakov, there is a borehole near the natural mineral water spring on the right bank of the Blh valley. The Veľké Konopnice area, which is considered a mushroom-picking area, is also located nearby. Thus, the spatial orientation includes not only the Blh floodplain but also individual named landscape features that place the village within its immediate surroundings.
Šťavica Spring
The Šťavica Spring is a three-metre-deep dug well with stone-lined walls. It lies behind former vineyards about 700 m southeast of Cakov. Its water is piped to a collection point on the main road and is used for drinking. It is natural, carbonated, cold, and hypotonic.
The spring is also located to the right of the field road, about 250 m up the slope. This second location detail supplements the southeastern position with the route along the field road and the ascent up the slope. The spring can therefore be located within Cakov’s immediate surroundings using several prominent reference points.
History
The village’s long history includes a decisive period during the Ottoman wars: Cakov was devastated twice and later resettled. Its beginnings, dating back at least to the 13th century, its documented mention since 1395, and its later resettlement together form a chronological arc spanning several centuries. Those who visit the village thus encounter not only a landscape on the Blh floodplain but also a settlement with a historical development that was interrupted several times.
Churches
The Reformed church in Cakov was built in 1922 in the Secession style. Its hall plan ends in a segmental form; a tower stands in front of the façade. The building is in good condition and serves its religious purpose.
Kostol Mena Panny Márie was built in 1931. The church is a single-nave religious building with a front tower integrated into the façade. It too is in good condition and serves its purpose. Kostol Mena Panny Márie belongs to the parish of Rimavská Seč.
The two churches complement the villagescape with independent structures and different years of construction. Their clearly identifiable architectural features make them separate elements of the local ecclesiastical architecture, without their respective forms needing to be confused with one another.
