History and Architectural Heritage

Finds from the Hatvan culture, which is assigned to the advanced Bronze Age, were discovered in Čerenčany. Pottery and cooperage are also historically documented in Čerenčany. In the first half of the 20th century, linen and rag rugs were woven in Čerenčany. The local history therefore encompasses archaeological finds as well as craft activities and textile work from more recent times.

Samuel Kollár is buried in the local cemetery of Čerenčany. At the cemetery entrance stands a period cast-iron pylon in the Empire style, shaped as a square column. Its Latin inscriptions refer to the life and work of Samuel Kollár.

The Protestant church in Čerenčany is a Baroque-Classical building erected in 1826–1831 on the foundations of an older toleration church. The church received its tower in 1861. Inside is a Classical portal altar from the first half of the 19th century with a triangular pediment and a painting of the twelve-year-old Jesus. The church’s architectural history thus encompasses both the older toleration church and the later Baroque-Classical replacement building, as well as the subsequent addition of the tower.

The curia in Čerenčany is a Late Classical building with a historicist façade, erected in 1860. It is a single-storey block building on a rectangular floor plan with a two-storey central avant-corps. Its historicist façades feature a pseudo-Romanesque arched frieze. The description thus combines the construction date, floor plan, number of storeys, central avant-corps and a clearly identified façade detail.
