Dulovo – Historical Traces and Hotels

Dulovo was established at the beginning of the 15th century. Its history encompasses several periods, different place names, changing forms of land use and noteworthy smaller structures.

History

Historical names for Dulovo include Dwihaza from 1455, Dulovec from 1920, Dulovo from 1927 onwards, as well as the Hungarian name Dulháza. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Dulovo was uninhabited. The settlement was resettled at the beginning of the 18th century. Thus, both an early foundation and a longer interruption in settlement form part of its recorded history.

The historical land use around Dulovo included grazing areas where the inhabitants grazed their livestock. Fruit trees, cabbage, other vegetables and hemp were also cultivated in Dulovo. Later, the place became known for tobacco cultivation. These uses are complemented by a built monument from the 19th century: Member of Parliament Abrahám Farkas and his son Mikuláš Farkas built a manor house in Dulovo.

Landscape

Dulovo lies in the Rimavská kotlina, on the right floodplain and the lowest terrace of the Blh. The area is predominantly flat to hilly and features pronounced terraces. The landscape is therefore not characterized by a uniform terrain form, but by the interplay of flatter and gently rising areas.

Remnants of oak-hornbeam forests can be found in the western part of the Dulovo area. The bodies of water are also part of the recorded local history: Dulovo had a mill on the Blh stream. Dúlháza had a two-stone mill on the Balog River. Each of the two mills is thus associated with its own body of water and its own place name.

Sacred Traces

The bell tower of Dúlháza (Dulovo) is a small sacred monument. It bears the inscription “ANNO D. 1740/FERENC VRAIN. V. /DULHÁZI REMEK”. A worn Latin inscription bearing the year 1809 can also be read on the bell tower. In addition to its classification as a small sacred monument, this structure therefore has two inscriptions recorded in different forms: one with the year 1740 and the text quoted above, and another Latin inscription with the year 1809.
