Konrádovce: Landscape, Hiking and Culture in the Cerová Highlands

Konrádovce is located in the northern part of the Cerová Highlands, in the valley of a left-bank tributary of the Gortva. The settlement lies below the 514 m-high Veľký Bučoň peak and is situated in a valley basin surrounded by 13 quarries. Bučoň Hill is covered with deciduous forest.

History and Architectural Heritage

The Civekfalva area is part of the historic surroundings. The remains of the former settlement of Šimonfalva, including its cemetery, are located there. Konrádovce's industrial past dates back to the end of the 19th century: a large basalt quarry was put into operation during this period, employing 800 workers. A memorial commemorates workers who lost their lives in the quarry.

The village also contains buildings from different periods. Konrádovce is home to a Classicist manor house dating from the mid-19th century. The village also has a Secessionist Roman Catholic church from 1938. The manor house, church and memorial do not represent a single building phase; instead, they point to different periods in the village's history and economic development.

The chronology further distinguishes the various elements of the village profile: the manor house dates from the mid-19th century, the large basalt quarry was put into operation toward the end of that century, and the church dates from 1938. The memorial to the quarry workers who lost their lives, together with the remains of the former settlement of Šimonfalva in the Civekfalva area, separately represent the history of work, remembrance and earlier settlement traces.

Hiking

Three mapped trails with a combined length of 4.5 km are recorded for hiking in Konrádovce. These include a 603 m-long, red-marked section of the Cesta Márie Széchy 0805 hiking trail. The remaining information concerns two trails maintained by the KST, whose complete routes continue beyond the village.

The Husiná–Konrádovce hiking trail is 5.8 km long; the section of this trail mapped in Konrádovce measures 2.2 km. The second trail maintained by the KST is called Konrádovce–Hodejov, railway station and is 7.4 km long. Its section in Konrádovce is listed as 1.79 km. Thus, both a combined figure for the three mapped hiking trails and separate lengths for the marked or maintained trail sections are available for the village.

For the two KST trails, the length of the complete connection and the length of the section recorded in Konrádovce are therefore shown side by side. For Husiná–Konrádovce, these are 5.8 km in total and 2.2 km in the village; for Konrádovce–Hodejov, railway station, the figures are 7.4 km in total and 1.79 km within Konrádovce. By contrast, the red-marked section of Cesta Márie Széchy 0805 is recorded as an independent 603 m-long section.
