Rimavské Brezovo: Church, Murals and Hotels

Rimavské Brezovo combines cultural history with a variety of activities. The range extends from religious art and historic buildings to a cycling route, horse-riding opportunities and model aircraft flying. Culture

The Lutheran church in Rimavské Brezovo is originally an Early Gothic single-nave church, probably built in the first half of the 14th century. The medieval murals in this church include an Italian-Byzantine depiction of the Assumption of Mary with Christ in a mandorla, an unusual motif in the region.

To visit the Gothic church in Rimavské Brezovo, please register by telephone at least one week in advance. The Gothic churches are open from May to the end of October. The village is also home to an originally Renaissance Župný dom from the 17th century. The partially preserved Classicist building of the Muránska únia ironworks company – later Rimavská koalícia – dates from 1808. A memorial with a gravestone commemorates the writer Ľudovít Kubáni (1830–1869) in Rimavské Brezovo.

Cycling

The “Rimavské Brezovo–Vyše jazera” cycling route begins in Rimavské Brezovo and runs entirely along third-class roads. It passes through sections by a farm, through the forest and through a residential area. The type of road and the different areas along its route are therefore clearly identified for this trail.

Activities

The Excel Madon Riding Club offers the public one-hour horse-riding sessions, riding courses and individual training. It also provides one-day educational programs and excursions for preschools, primary schools and secondary schools. As another option, the riding club offers hippotherapy as an alternative form of treatment.

The Letisko bocian model flying site is intended for RC model aircraft enthusiasts of all ages and for entire families. Alongside the riding club’s offerings, this provides an activity explicitly focused on RC model flying.
