Kováčová – Spa, Nature and Hotels

Kováčová combines spa treatments, nature and various forms of physical activity. Its diverse attractions range from mineral water and a spa park to protected trees, marked cycle paths and facilities at Holidaypark.

Spa

At Kúpele Kováčová, treatment is based on moderately mineralised, sulphate-hydrogencarbonate calcium-magnesium water with an elevated fluoride content and a temperature of 48.5 °C. Kováčová Spa lies at the foothills of the Kremnické Mountains, northwest of the city of Zvolen, at an elevation of 320 metres. It is located away from the bustle of the city, in a peaceful setting surrounded by greenery and a spa park. Within the spa grounds, Kováčovský rybník offers a tranquil place for relaxation and sport fishing.

Nature

Protected natural features include the Duby v Kováčovej trees. These are two mighty pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur), considered remnants of the original forest. They stand west of the centre of Kováčová, in holiday cottage area B on the southeastern foothills of the Kremnické Mountains. The trees were placed under protection in 1987 and are estimated to be more than 200 years old.

The Duby v Kováčovej educational trail can be reached by bus to the Kováčová, obecný úrad stop, followed by a 1.3 km walk west into the holiday cottage area, with an elevation gain of 73 m. The route description therefore identifies both the starting point in the village and the subsequent route to the natural attraction.

Leisure

The area around Kováčová is suitable for walks and hikes in nature. Kováčová also offers varied terrain and numerous marked cycle paths for recreational cyclists as well as more demanding athletes. The surroundings of Kováčová are also suitable for horse riding.

The Kováčová Tourist Club organises educational excursions to less-visited places in the nearby area. These include, in particular, local protected areas, cultural and historical monuments, and natural features. Where possible, these excursions include expert commentary.

Culture

A memorial house with a memorial plaque stands at 59 Kúpeľná Street. It is protected as a national cultural monument and is identified with the Detvan spa building.

Leisure

Holidaypark Kováčová has various hydromassage features and a 60-metre indoor water slide with a measuring device, as well as light and sound effects. Holidaypark also regularly offers aqua aerobics, aqua dance, exercises with a physiotherapist and baby swimming.
