Hotels in Breziny: Reservoir, Nature and Culture

Breziny lies on the Neresnica River before it enters the Javorie Mountains. The village therefore combines a clearly defined riverside setting with a landscape where water, rock, wildlife and traces of history stand side by side.

Water

The Dobrá Niva Reservoir extends across the cadastral territories of Breziny and Dobrá Niva. Its geographical location is therefore just as specific as its name. The Dobrá Niva Reservoir is designated as a carp fishing water; its fishing district number is 3-5010-1-1.

The access road from Breziny leads near the dam to a wooden pavilion at the Dobrá Niva Reservoir. The wooden pavilion has a swing, seating and barbecue facilities. Thus, alongside the water itself, a clearly designated spot at the reservoir is also a focal point.

Nature

Breziny lies in the northeastern part of the Pliešovská kotlina basin. The hilly landscape consists of andesite and its tuffs, and has a basalt flow in its western part. Its geological character can therefore be seen in the different rock formations.

In the Homôlka quarry, garnet-bearing andesite occurs in large quantities at an elevation of 503 metres. In the Homôlka quarry area, a reddish-brown garnet mineral occurs in smaller and larger oval formations. Both descriptions point to the distinctive connection between rock and mineral deposits in this area.

The wildlife is also specifically documented: tree frogs, green lizards, slow worms and owls, as well as numerous common bird and insect species, occur in the Breziny area.

Culture

The cultural event “Deň obce Breziny” was scheduled to take place on 24 August 2024 in the car park in front of the cultural centre in Breziny. The second edition of the same event was scheduled to take place on 18 June 2022 from 2 p.m. in front of the municipal office in Breziny. Breziny also holds celebrations every ten years to mark the anniversary of the village’s founding.

The ruins of Dobronivá Castle in Podzámčok are a cultural monument. In the 12th century, the major trade route Via magna passed through the area of Breziny. The nearby historical context therefore includes both a specific architectural monument and a trade route known beyond the region.

One structure has three bells. The wooden crosses date from the 19th century and bear elements and features of the original architecture. Such individual details complement the broader historical references with directly named architectural elements.

Orientation

The guide to the Pliešovská kotlina microregion presents the history and attractions of the municipalities, cultural monuments and memorial sites, hiking and cycling routes, as well as tips for trips in the surrounding area. Its thematic scope therefore extends beyond individual points in Breziny and also encompasses the various places and routes of the microregion.
