History

Jamník was first mentioned in writing in 1346 under the name Yemnik. From its foundation until 1848, the village was a serf village owned by nobles from Podtureň. A fire is also part of the recorded local history: it destroyed the wooden school and the house of prayer. In the memory of subsequent generations of Jamník's inhabitants, this event remained known as the “great fire.”

Culture

The cultural center in Jamník was built in 1928 for the local reading association. It mainly organized theater performances. Surviving records document 157 plays performed in Jamník.

The Evangelical church in Jamník was built in 1907 in the Neoclassical style. Its interior is designed as a hall with a barrel vault. A projecting tower with a pyramidal roof stands on the west façade. The altar painting “The Baptism of Christ” dates from 1910 and is attributed to M. Mitrovský. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

Jamník's cultural heritage also includes traditional crafts. Until the middle of the 20th century, linen was woven here and shepherds' equipment was made, including črpáky and wooden spoons. Alongside the local history, community life and church, textile work and the production of wooden household objects are therefore also part of the village's traditional heritage.

Hiking Connections

In the past, hikes to Baranec were organized primarily from Jamník. Historically, hiking trails and footpaths were also marked, particularly from the railway station in Podtureň through Jamník toward Baranec.
