Svätý Kríž: Find a hotel – wooden church and MTB routes

The Classicist manor house Kúria Rudolfa Turanského dates from the first half of the 19th century. The settlement structure of Svätý Kríž also has a clear historical characteristic: it runs linearly along a stream. Local craft traditions include activities for which Svätý Kríž was still known in the mid-20th century. These included making shepherds’ utensils and weaving rag rugs.

The Evangelical Articular Church of Svätý Kríž is one of the largest wooden buildings in Central Europe. Another important church in the village is the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It is Classicist in style and was remodelled in 1819, partly using the masonry of an earlier Gothic church. This earlier church had been destroyed at the beginning of the 18th century. The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross also contains a Neo-Gothic copy of the main altar in Kežmarok.

Cycling

The “Around Liptovska Mara” MTB circuit passes through Svätý Kríž. It runs along lightly trafficked second- and third-class roads as well as paved and unpaved country roads. The route is mainly suitable for mountain bikes and e-bikes. It is 58 km long, has a difficulty rating of 4 and takes 8 hours.

Another connection is provided by the “Vlkolínec – Pribylina” route. It leads to nearby Svätý Kríž, where the largest Articular wooden church in Central Europe is located. The village therefore also features on a route whose course explicitly includes the cultural distinctiveness of Svätý Kríž.

Getting there

Svätý Kríž has a direct bus connection to Liptovský Mikuláš. A small car park is located a few metres from the Evangelical Articular Church of Svätý Kríž.
