Vyšný Klátov – Hotels between Hiking Trails and Culture

Two marked hiking trails with different destinations begin in Vyšný Klátov: the blue-marked route leads to the nearby Jahodná sports and recreation centre, while the yellow-marked route leads to the Lajoška mountain chalet and onwards to Železný vrch at an elevation of 817.5 metres. A blue-marked cycling route also runs through the village. Hiking and cycling here are therefore not merely general options, but are connected by specific marked routes with named destinations.

Nature

Vyšný Klátov lies in the Volovské vrchy mountain range, which forms part of the Slovenské rudohorie mountain region. The village is located at the transition between the north-western part of the Košická kotlina basin and the Slovenské rudohorie, in the source area of the Myslavský potok stream. The cadastral area of Vyšný Klátov also includes part of the Volovské vrchy protected bird area. At 947 metres, Predné Holisko is the highest peak in the cadastral area of Vyšný Klátov.

Hiking Trails

The Lajoška mountain chalet is located below the summit of Predná Holica at an elevation of 908 metres, in the vicinity of Vyšný Klátov. The yellow-marked hiking route from the village leads to this chalet and continues to Železný vrch. In addition, the blue-marked hiking route to the nearby Jahodná sports and recreation centre begins in Vyšný Klátov. The additional blue-marked cycling route runs through Vyšný Klátov.

Educational Trail

The Klátovské meteority educational trail begins in Vyšný Klátov; four information boards stand in the village. The trail is 2.2 kilometres long and has an elevation difference of 60 metres. It is self-guided and linear, can be walked in both directions, and is laid out as a hiking trail for year-round use. In terms of content, the educational trail is devoted to astronomy and is connected with the meteorite fall of 28 February 2010 in the municipality of Vyšný Klátov.

Culture

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity was built in 1869 on the site of an older church and incorporates the tower of the older church. It has historicist Art Nouveau altars from the first half of the 20th century. Another insight into local traditions can be found in the Folk Culture Minimuseum, which was established in 2001 in a former municipal smithy. Historical furniture, household and agricultural items, homemade traditional costumes and embroidery are displayed there.

History and Community

The history of Vyšný Klátov includes a period as a German colony from 1317 to 1773. It was connected with the exploration of mineral resources as well as the mining and processing of iron ore. The ŽIJEM festival in Vyšný Klátov continued a more than ten-year tradition of CHRISTILAND. The Koinonia Ján Krstiteľ community centre was founded in 1994 in eastern Slovakia near Košice and offers spiritual and recreational activities.
