Čifáre: Hotels between Landscape and History
Čifáre is located in the northern part of the Pohronská pahorkatina and in the valley of the Telinský potok stream. The village combines a distinctly shaped hilly landscape with traces of human history dating far back to prehistoric times. These are complemented by ecclesiastical monuments, archaeological sites and dated events from community life.
Nature
The hilly area of Čifáre consists of younger Tertiary clays, sands and gravels overlain by a loess cover. The municipal area is predominantly deforested. Remnants of oak forests can be found in the southeast and northwest. In the eastern part of the municipal area, there is also a 16-hectare water reservoir. Thus, the landscape clearly reveals geological layers, open areas, individual remnants of forest and a larger body of water in distinguishable forms.
History
The earliest settlement of Čifáre dates back to the Paleolithic. An original church in Čifáre is documented for the year 1332. The parish church of Saint John the Evangelist was built in 1774 on the foundations of the earlier church. The village's history therefore brings together both very early settlement and an inherited ecclesiastical continuity.
Culture
Several archaeological sites make the early history of Čifáre visible through specific objects. In Kapustnická, also known as Káposztás, a claw-shaped tool resembling a hand axe and made of local andesite was found. A flint core was uncovered at the archaeological site in the Bomha valley. A flint scraper was found in Stredné siatie.
Local Life
Community events are also documented with specific years. The Čifáre goulash cooking competition was held for the 20th time in 2025 and for the 21st time in 2026. The 2026 edition took place at the Tibor-Mészároš Football Stadium. There was another culinary event on April 7, 2018: on that day, the Čifáre Viticulture Association held a public wine tasting at the Cultural Centre in Čifáre.
Region
Čifáre is located on the first-class I-51 road. This road connects Levice and Vráble; at the same time, it connects the entire area with Nitra. The road is therefore one of the explicitly named regional connections of the village and places Čifáre between these cities and the wider area around Nitra.
