Dolné Lefantovce between the Church, the Tribeč Mountains and the Nitra Floodplain
Dolné Lefantovce lies at the northwestern foot of the Tribeč Mountains and combines a historically significant church with landscapes between the mountains and the river floodplain. Within the cadastral area, the landscape extends from part of the Tribeč Mountains to the left-bank floodplain of the Nitra. It also includes the Lefantovské rameno, the Lefantovský potok, trails for hikers and a designated cycle route.
Culture
The focal point is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, “Kostol Narodenia Panny Márie”. It was built in 1380 and was originally Gothic. The present building is a single-nave Neoclassical church with a polygonal-ended presbytery, an attached sacristy and a projecting tower. The main altar features a painting of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary by J. Zanussi from the early 19th century. The church also contains a stone Gothic baptismal font with Romanesque elements. The church is listed as a cultural monument and is open to the public.
A crypt is located near the church in the centre of Dolné Lefantovce. Vojtech Bartakovič, the Archbishop of Eger, is buried there with his family. Several different traces therefore come together in one place: the medieval origins of the church building, its Neoclassical form, art-historical details in the interior and the family tomb associated with the crypt.
Landscape
The location at the northwestern foot of the Tribeč Mountains defines the geographical setting of Dolné Lefantovce. The cadastral area lies between the aforementioned part of the mountains and the left-bank floodplain of the Nitra. Visitors can explore the surroundings near the Lefantovský potok. Fishing and boating are possible on the Lefantovské rameno.
Trails and Cycling
Visitors can hike along marked trails in the Tribeč Mountains. Cycle route 2115 is listed for cycling; it is 13.4 kilometres long. It begins outside Dolné Lefantovce at a monument on road II/593. This clearly distinguishes the route’s starting point, length and course from the trails in the Tribeč Mountains and the local landscape areas.
Transport Links
Dolné Lefantovce lies at an intersection of second- and third-class roads. This road network is as much a part of the townscape as the church in the centre, the water areas and the landscape between the Tribeč Mountains and the Nitra floodplain.
