Discover Rišňovce: Hotel, Church and Local History

Rišňovce is located in the southwestern part of the Nitra Loess Hills. The village combines sacred architecture, memorial sites and traces of a long settlement history with a cycle route connecting Nitra and Rišňovce.

Culture

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Rišňovce was built between 1766 and 1775. The late Baroque single-nave building has a square presbytery and an attached sacristy. The interior features Baroque and Rococo decoration, as well as a Louisian main altar dating from the second half of the 18th century. The furnishings also include a small bell dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius from 1747. It was found by chance in the attic of the rectory.

The tower of the Church of the Holy Trinity is approximately 27 metres high, including the cross at its top. The choir gallery cannot be reached from inside the church, but from outside via steep steps near the tower. South of the church, a Cyril and Methodius double cross stands in a well-maintained park.

A visit to the M. I. Kutuzov Museum is possible only by prior telephone appointment. The museum presents a permanent exhibition with copies of historical documents relating to the history of Rišňovce and Kutuzov’s stay in the village. The lower rooms also contain a permanent exhibition of folk-culture artefacts.

History

The Renaissance manor house in Rišňovce has been listed in the central register as a national cultural monument since 2 July 1993. Marshal Kutuzov stayed overnight in the building from 18 to 19 December 1805 after the Battle of Austerlitz on 2 December 1805. The earliest construction phase of the manor house probably dates to the mid-16th century. At that time, it consisted of a single-storey, three-room, single-winged and partly basemented structure.

The municipality of Rišňovce also preserves archaeological traces from various periods. Finds attest to settlement in the Neolithic and Hallstatt periods. The archaeological evidence also includes pottery fragments from the Roman period.

The memorial to the fallen was erected in 1935 by firefighters from the Czechoslovak Volunteer Fire Brigade with the support of local residents. It honours the inhabitants of Rišňovce who fell in the First World War (1914–1918).

Things to do

The Stations of the Cross in Rišňovce comprise fourteen stations made of acacia wood. It is considered a place for personal prayer, relaxation and regaining strength. For passers-by on the way to the cemetery in Horné Rišňovce, the fourteen stations serve as a memorial.

The yellow cycle route 8110 connects Nitra with Rišňovce and runs along asphalt, paved and dirt roads. It is an easy MTB route suitable for recreational sports and cycling with the family.
