Poľný Kesov: Thermal Water, Horse Riding and History

Poľný Kesov lies in the valley of the Cedron stream between the Váh and Nitra rivers. ThermalPark Nitrava has ten pools with thermal water and clean water. The thermal water is natural, mineral-rich, highly mineralised, hydrogencarbonate-sodium-rich and slightly alkaline.

Water and Leisure

The ThermalPark Nitrava water park opened in August 2020 and operates during the summer season. It includes a children's water castle with slides and water attractions, a relaxation pool with a water bar, a lazy river and an adventure pool with a climbing wall. The slide hall has four indoor slides with seven slide lanes and their own splash pools. For planning the day, the pools, slides and seasonal operating period can be considered as separate focal points.

Horse Riding

The Jazdecký klub Poľný Kesov offers riding lessons and rides in nature. The Santiaga Cup is also held regularly at the same club; this publicly accessible riding competition is one of the town's recurring events. The history of horse riding dates back to 1814–1822: at that time, the first horse races in what was then Hungary took place in Poľný Kesov.

Nature and Cycling

The Štepnice area has 35.5 hectares of secondary forest, dominated mainly by acacia and ash trees. Cycle route 2118 passes through Poľný Kesov. The route is 43.1 kilometres long, an easy MTB circular route designed for recreational cyclists. When planning, its length, difficulty and circular format can be considered separately.

The 43.1 kilometres of the cycle route represent a different time frame from the seasonal operation of the water park. Those who include the local history will find visible structures such as a manor house, wayside cross, church and bell tower, as well as archaeological evidence in the form of a settlement and burial ground. Horse riding adds club activities and events to these themes, while the Å tepnice area preserves the connection with nature through its secondary forest.

Culture and History

Poľný Kesov is home to a Baroque manor house from the 18th century. A Neoclassical wayside cross from 1795 also stands in the town. A Slavic settlement from the period of Great Moravia is located here; there is also a 10th-century skeletal burial ground. The Church of Christ the King is located in an old Baroque barn that was converted into a church in 1940. A 19th-century bell tower is also located in Poľný Kesov. In addition, there are settlement finds from a Hungarian-influenced culture dating from the Early Bronze Age.
