Veľký Lapáš: Winegrowing, Culture and Hotels

Veľký Lapáš is located in the western part of the Žitavská sprašová pahorkatina loess upland. The first written mention of Lapáš dates from 1113, when the settlement belonged to the Zobor Monastery. The local winegrowing tradition includes the movable “Lapášsky orloj” wine clock. It is located in the Lapáš vineyards on the cadastral boundary between Malý Lapáš and Veľký Lapáš and was created entirely by the local woodcarver Peter Šrank. The clock strikes every day at 12:00 and 18:00.

Culture

A distinctive sacred building is the “Kostol Nepoškvrneného počatia Panny Márie” church in Veľký Lapáš. It was originally Gothic and was given a Baroque makeover and extended in 1715. Today, it is in very good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. There is also a Stations of the Cross with 14 stations made of poplar wood at Dvor u rezbára.

Winegrowing

A short, easy walk through the local vineyards can be combined with a visit to Dvor u rezbára. However, the following applies to the vineyards around Dvor u rezbára: they are privately owned; entering and parking on these properties is prohibited. The property boundaries and the applicable access rules must be observed without exception.

Events

Several cultural, wine and community events are listed or planned in Veľký Lapáš for 2026. An evening celebration marking the 90th anniversary of the Dychová hudba Lapášanka brass band is listed for 24 January at the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre. The “Fašiangová obchôdzka stredom obce” carnival procession is listed for 14 February in Veľký Lapáš. The 20th edition of the wine exhibition with a public tasting is listed for 27 March at the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre.

From 2 to 6 April, the “Veľká noc v dreve” event is listed in the Lapáš vineyards at Dvor u rezbára. The traditional erection of the maypole (“Tradičné stavanie mája”) is planned for 30 April 2026 in the park by the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre. The “Susedská vínna cesta” is planned for 16 May 2026 through the vineyards of Obdokovce and Lapáš.

The “Deň obce Veľký Lapáš” Community Day is planned for 5 September 2026 from 14:00 in the park by the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre. Its programme includes a market with regional products and wine tastings. Also listed for 5 September 2026 is the “Veľkolapášsky kotlík 2026” goulash-cooking competition in the park by the Cultural Centre. “Chodenie Lucií obcou” is listed for 13 December 2026 in Veľký Lapáš.
