Cabaj - Čápor: Culture, Landscape and Hotels

Cabaj - Čápor is a place with several historical and landscape points of interest. Its character is revealed through archaeological traces, sacred buildings, public memorial sites and nature within the municipality and the surrounding region.

Culture and History

The material from the fill layers of the burial mound complex is associated with the Linear Pottery culture and the Late Bronze Age. The archaeological traces in Čápor include several different findings: a burial ground with skeletal graves was discovered on the southeastern slope of the burial mound complex. Based on coin finds of Ondeja I and Ladislaus I, the examined part of the burial ground in Čápor is dated to the second half of the 11th century. An archaeological site is located at the northeastern edge of Čápor, on the “Pri kopci” parcel.

The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Čápor was built in 1779–1780; the tower was added in 1798–1803. The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel contains an 18th-century painting of Saint Michael the Archangel and a Neoclassical organ dating from 1798–1803. The church thus preserves both a sacred work of art and an instrument from the period when the tower was added.

The Holy Trinity is also represented at several locations in Cabaj. The original of the Holy Trinity sculptural group is located in an exterior niche above the entrance to the Trinity Church in Cabaj. A Holy Trinity sculptural group also stands in a public place in Cabaj.

Zámok Báb Castle is located in the vicinity of Cabaj-Čápor. In the wider regional surroundings of Cabaj-Čápor are Šintava Castle, Neogotický kaštieľ Castle and Kaštieľ Nebojsa Castle.

Landscape

There are thermophilous oak forests in the northeastern part of Čápor. Zobor Mountain and Plešine Hill are located in the vicinity of Cabaj-Čápor. In the wider regional surroundings of Cabaj-Čápor are the mountains of Žibrica and Málok. The aforementioned landscape features are thus distributed across the Čápor district, the immediate surroundings and the wider regional area.
