Hul: Hotel, Motešický Manor House and Neo-Baroque Church

Hul lies on the left bank of the Žitava in a wetland on loess deposits with a floodplain microclimate. At the same time, the history of the locality reaches far back: archaeological finds include a Neolithic settlement associated with the Linear Pottery and Lengyel cultures. The area thus preserves concrete links to the landscape, settlement history and architectural heritage.

Landscape

The location on the left bank of the Žitava defines Hul’s geographical setting. The wetland lies on loess deposits and has a floodplain microclimate. These three features belong together and describe the natural setting of the locality without reducing it to a single type of landscape.

Archaeology and History

The archaeological finds in the area of Hul cover several clearly identified periods. Evidence has been found dating from the older Iron Age, the Roman-Barbarian period, the Migration Period and the Great Moravian period, as well as from the 10th to the 12th century. This is supplemented by the Neolithic settlement associated with the Linear Pottery and Lengyel cultures. The individual classifications refer to different historical periods and remain designated accordingly.

Manor House and Park

According to the records, Motešický Manor House was built approximately between 1785 and 1795 in the Classicist-Empire style. The manor park was laid out at the same time as the building and is smaller than its original area. One representative room contains a marble fireplace; this room also has direct access to the park.

In front of the manor house stands a statue on a tall column. It was probably erected between 1805 and 1810 in the Late Baroque style with Classicist elements. Both the approximate dating of the manor house and the probable dating of the statue thus remain tied to their respective historical statements.

Church

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Hul is a Neo-Baroque church built in 1862–1863. Its foundation stone was laid on 23 September 1862; the shell of the building was completed after two years. The consecration took place on the first Saturday of October 1885, together with its dedication to Our Lady of the Rosary.

The main altar of the church contains a painting of Our Lady of the Rosary by E. Prokop from 1956. The furnishings also include a single-manual organ with pedal, designated I/P/10 (8+2). This designation is recorded as the name of the organ and is not supplemented with additional technical details.
