Komjatice: Hotel, Bodies of Water, Nature and Historic Culture
Komjatice combines a diverse body of water with protected nature, a historic park and several noteworthy sacred buildings. Different focal points thus emerge in the Slovak municipality without their respective characteristics becoming blurred: at Štrkáreň, the focus is on water and fishing, in the park on green space and recreation, while the churches and Calvary make different eras visible.
Water
Štrkáreň Komjatice is a 45-hectare body of water with islands and a maximum depth of 18 metres. This body of water offers suitable conditions for swimming. Visitors can also purchase a guest fishing permit at Štrkáreň Komjatice. The water surface, islands and stated depth give the site a clearly recognisable landscape structure; the option to purchase such a permit adds an explicitly mentioned fishing aspect to its use.
Nature
The Kňazova jama–TorozlÃn protected nature reserve is located in the area of Komjatice. The nature reserve has 62 plant species and fauna; it is also home to the unique European pond turtle found in Slovakia.
Park
The chateau park of Komjatice is a protected site covering an area of 64,929 m², which was placed under protection in 1984. Komjatice Park offers residents and visitors opportunities for relaxation, entertainment and short-term leisure activities. The park has a children's playground, a pavilion and a fountain; benches stand along the paths. A plane tree in Komjatice Park has a trunk circumference of 930 centimetres at breast height.
Culture
The Church of St. Elizabeth in Komjatice is a late Baroque building constructed in 1751–1755 on the site of an older medieval church. Inside, it has three altars and a Rococo pulpit from the end of the 18th century. The Calvary of Komjatice comprises a five-figure crucifixion group with the Holy Sepulchre from the mid-18th century. Its Stations of the Cross date from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Peter and Paul in Komjatice is a significant architectural monument and has been included in the list of immovable monuments.
