Rúbaň: Hotels, Castle History and Wine

Rúbaň reveals its distinct character through several layers: church and castle history, nature, winemaking traditions, and insights into local life all come together here.

Culture

A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was erected in Rúbaň in 2025 and consecrated during the Dni obce Rúbaň event on July 4, 2025. The event took place on July 4 and 5, 2025. Its program included a cultural program at the cultural center and continued the following day at the sports field. Attractions for children were also provided at an event in Rúbaň in 2024.

Construction of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Imrich began in 1908 on the foundations of an earlier church. The barrel vault features a 1967 secco painting of the miraculous multiplication of the loaves, created by the amateur painter Štefan Petica. Above the choir are illusionistic secco and wall paintings of Saint Stephen and Saint Imrich, created by Pavol Miskolczy in 1979. The church also preserves a polychrome Baroque Pietà from the 18th century, which was brought here from Šaštín in the 19th century.

An 8th-century Slavic-Avar skeletal burial ground was discovered in the municipal area of Rúbaň; an older settlement probably already existed there.

Rúbaň Castle was probably built in the second half of the 18th century in the Neoclassical style by the Horváthy family of Disznós and remodeled by the Jankovich family in 1830. It was not originally created as a representative winery, but rather as a comfortable summer residence for affluent families.

Nature

A 54.77-hectare natural and landscaped park, created around 1887 by the Steiger family, has been preserved beside Rúbaň Castle. Twelve species of protected exotic woody plants continue to grow in this landscaped park. At the municipal boundary between Rúbaň and Strekov, a willow grove has also been preserved by a pond, forming several romantic corners.

The Rúbaň fire station houses a permanent exhibition about the history and present of Rúbaň, as well as the local volunteer fire brigade. To visit the exhibition about Rúbaň and the volunteer fire brigade, you should register in advance at the municipal office. During the municipal office’s opening hours, you can also obtain an anniversary stamp there for hiking and travel diaries, notebooks, postcards of Rúbaň, and similar souvenirs.

Wine

Château Rúbaň combines modern winemaking technologies with traditional methods and harvests and sorts the grapes by hand. The château offers wine tastings featuring wines that reflect the characteristics of the region. At a local event in 2024, local winemakers presented their wines.

Château Rúbaň established an ampelographic collection to commemorate more than 250 years of history. In this collection, visitors can learn about the characteristic features, history, and current condition of the individual grape varieties, as well as taste grapes and wine made from grapes from the collection. Château Rúbaň offers private parking directly on the premises.

The 10-hectare fishing water VN Rúbaň č. 2 is located near the municipality of Rúbaň. It is designated for fishing.
