Lipové between canals and Ostrovné lúky

Lipové lies in the plain of Žitný ostrov, in a flat lowland at 105 to 109 m above sea level. A relatively dense network of canals runs through the cadastral area. The landscape traversed by canals is suitable for rural tourism and gives the area a distinct lowland character.

Landscape and Nature

The deforested, flat cadastral area of Lipové covers 1,058 ha. Geologically, it consists of gravel and sands of the „kolárovskej formácie“, with layers of fluvial Danube deposits as well as floodplain and inundation soils that are locally salinized. The cadastral area belongs to the Ostrovné lúky Natura 2000 site. This is an open lowland habitat that is of great importance for the breeding and survival of the red-footed falcon (Falco vespertinus).

The steppe, forest-steppe and agricultural landscape of Ostrovné lúky also provides suitable living conditions for the lesser grey shrike (Lanius minor) and the tawny pipit (Anthus campestris). The Bodza–Lipové oxbow, also known as Zsemlekes, is one of the most valuable tourist sites in Lipové. The former gravel pit area in the cadastral territory of Lipové, immediately next to the municipality of Zemianska Olča, was transformed into the CARP PARADISE fishing water for recreational fishing.

Cycling Tourism and the Local Landscape

Lipové offers very good conditions for cycling tourism due to its lowland relief and the comparatively low traffic volume on local roads. Typical architecture in Lipové includes semi-detached houses and the barns standing beside them in Rakotáš. The landscape, local roads and traditional buildings therefore form a closely defined rural context.

Culture and Local History

Lipové was established after the 1920 land reform under the name Hodžovo; settlers from all over Slovakia founded the settlement. Its architectural heritage includes the Protestant bell tower, built in the 1920s, as well as the Kálnokyovská kúria and the associated barn on the Terem farmstead, which were built in the 19th century.

Community Life

Mother's Day celebrations take place in Lipové every year. Community and cultural events organized by the municipality of Lipové also include a goulash-cooking competition. Thus, both an annual recurring occasion and a specific event from local community life are documented.
