Lechnica: Hotels, the Dunajec and the Church of Saint Jodocus

The patronage of the Church of Saint Jodocus in Lechnica has been documented since 1419. To date, it is the only historically documented patronage of this saint in Slovakia. The present Church of Saint Jodocus was built in 1830 after the previous church burned down in 1825. Thus, the village's ecclesiastical history is linked to a specific name and a clearly dated construction history.

Culture and History

Lechnica is a former farming village with preserved elements of folk architecture. The historical surroundings include two named castles: in the vicinity of Lechnica are Niedzica Castle - Zamek XIIIw. and Niedzica Castle (Dunajec) - Zamek. The Červený Kláštor monastery is located in the immediate vicinity of Lechnica. Rytro Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings of Lechnica. The historical sites are not all situated at the same spatial level, but extend from the immediate surroundings of the village to the wider regional area.

Landscape and Nature

The Dunajec River runs along the edge of Lechnica, while Lechnica lies in the valley of the Havka stream at the foot of the Spišská Magura. Parts of Lechnica belong to Pieniny National Park, where the second level of protection applies. In the immediate vicinity are Klejowa Peak, Facimiech Peak, Łysina Peak - 792 m npm Pieniny, and Trzy Korony Mountain. The spatial references therefore extend from the riverbank and valley to the foot of the mountains, individual peaks and the protected area.

Cycling

The cycling options can be distinguished by named routes, lengths and difficulty levels. Singletrails Lechnica is a 15-kilometre network of mountain bike trails in the heart of Pieniny National Park. The GRIFTOF route of Singletrails Lechnica is a 9-kilometre trail for families. GVIZD is a 1.3-kilometre challenging downhill trail for experienced downhill riders. The GRIFTOF and ŠPICA routes of Singletrails Lechnica run through coniferous forest and meadows. This provides different trail profiles, each with its own length, target group and landscape description.

Trails and Winter

The visitor attractions in Lechnica include renovated hiking trails. In winter, Lechnica has several groomed cross-country ski tracks. Lechnica also has a wild boar enclosure. Hiking trails, ski tracks and the enclosure are each named as separate components of the local offering.
