Malý Slavkov: Nature, Culture and Routes to the High Tatras

Malý Slavkov extends from protected natural areas to views of the peaks of the High Tatras. It is also home to the Neoclassical Church of St. Michael, marked cycling routes, and a golf course in a landscape at the foot of the Tatras.

Nature

The Slavkovský jarok protected area lies within the cadastral territory of Malý Slavkov and covers 2.48 hectares. The fourth level of protection applies in this area. The Slavkovský potok stream flows through Malý Slavkov and comes from the Skalnatá Valley in the Tatras. Slavkovský jarok is also one of three sites where an endangered species occurs in the sub-Tatra region.

Another protected area is the Kút Nature Reserve. It covers 11.22 hectares and extends partly into the northwestern part of Malý Slavkov. Several plant species grow there that are described in the municipal plan as critically endangered. The two nature reserves therefore differ both in size and in their geographical extent within the village.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Michael in Malý Slavkov was built in 1844–1847 in the Neoclassical style. The church contains a late Renaissance relief. Its organ was made by Gebruder Rieger and bears the dates Vienna 1873 and Paris 1878.

Malý Slavkov thus brings together a 19th-century building and older or artfully crafted interior details. The Church of St. Michael is clearly characterized not only by its period of construction, but also by its relief and organ.

Golf

The Royal Valley Golf Course is located in Malý Slavkov in a landscape at the foot of the Tatras and offers views of the peaks of the High Tatras. The golf course is designed for a wide range of golfers, from beginners to experienced players. Its landscape setting and sporting use are brought together through views of the mountains.

Cycling

Marked forest cycling routes lead from Malý Slavkov to the High Tatras. One specific connection is the Kežmarok–Malý Slavkov–Vrbov cycling route. It runs along asphalt, field, and forest roads, and therefore includes different road surfaces along its course. Malý Slavkov appears in this network of routes both as the starting point for marked routes toward the High Tatras and as a stop on the connection between Kežmarok and Vrbov.

Events

A “DIVADELNÝ VÍKEND” was listed at the Malý Slavkov Cultural Centre for 13 February 2026 at 19:00. A vintage car exhibition was announced at Privát Horec in Malý Slavkov for 22 August 2026. The two dates represent different types of events: the first entry concerned a cultural centre programme, while the second concerned an exhibition at Privát Horec.
