Kapušany combines the ruins of Kapušiansky hrad with a protected nature reserve and the Church of St. Martin, Kostol sv. Martina, in the centre. The castle complex is particularly striking: the ruins of Kapušiansky hrad are a national cultural monument. Its predominantly rectangular layout comprises an upper castle and an outer bailey. The grounds of Kapušiansky hrad are freely accessible, and admission is free.

Culture

The centre of Kapušany is also home to a national cultural monument: the Church of St. Martin, Kostol sv. Martina, built in the Neoclassical style. Remains of an older church were used in its construction. The new Church of St. Martin, Kostol sv. Martina, was solemnly consecrated on 2 November 1798, the feast day of Saint Martin; the consecration was dedicated to Saint Martin.

History is also explored along the educational trail “Velikáni kapušianskych dejín”. Its information panels are located in the Park of Saints Cyril and Methodius, svätých Cyrila a Metoda. The educational trail provides information about selected important figures in the history of Kapušany and significant places in the municipality, including the castle, church and manor house. The information panels include ergonomic play elements such as memory games and puzzles for children and people with disabilities. The cultural events programme also includes the Kapušianske folklórne dni, which was held for the 21st time in 2026.

Nature

Kapušiansky hrad is located in the Kapušiansky hradný vrch nature reserve at an altitude of 504 m. The 18.1-hectare area contains an important botanical site on volcanic rock. Kapušiansky hrad is also located in the Natura 2000 site SKUEVO322 Fintické svahy. Rare animal species of European importance and rare plant species occur there.

Experiences

At Kapušiansky hrad, visitors can take guided castle tours, try archery and mint coins. Demonstrations of blacksmithing and pottery are also offered, along with tastings of medieval cuisine specialities. Near Kapušiansky hrad, a supervised ascent over the castle hill passes eight stations.

A green-marked trail runs from Kapušany railway station to Kapušiansky hrad and is 2.3 km long. Two trails lead to the castle: one is longer and less demanding, while the other is shorter and more demanding.

The Park of Saints Cyril and Methodius, svätých Cyrila a Metoda, has a covered park amphitheatre with seating for 1,000 visitors. The park also has an asphalt sports court with artificial lighting. It is used for basketball, tennis and football, as well as ice skating and ice hockey in winter.
