Trnkov – Village History, Church and Leisure

Trnkov lies on the northern edge of the Košická kotlina, in the Toryská pahorkatina subunit. The built-up area of Trnkov lies in a deeply incised small valley formed by the Trnkovský potok, which flows in from Maglovec. This identifies both the wider landscape and the more immediate subunit of the village; the valley shape and the tributary complete this geographical classification.

History

Trnkov was first officially mentioned in writing in 1330. In 1332 and 1333, the priest Kosmas is also mentioned; he served in the church in Trnkov at that time.

The flax grown there was processed in Trnkov until it was displaced by the developed textile industry. The processing therefore concerned a local product and continued until industrial textile production became established.

Culture

The municipality describes village customs and songs as the predominant folk traditions of Trnkov. The local religious culture includes the Greek Catholic Ochrana Presvätej Bohorodičky church in Trnkov. It was built in 1925 and reconstructed and expanded in 1994. The Greek Catholic church in Trnkov has 100 seats and 50 standing places.

The “Teplákovo-pyžamová párty” was announced as part of the programme in Trnkov for 7:00 p.m. on 1 May 2026.
