Vysne Ruzbachy – Crater, Thermal Spa and Travertine Art

Nature

The Crater has been designated a protected natural formation in Slovakia since 1967. Its formation can be understood through the sequence of mineral spring, travertine, and water: travertine accumulated around a mineral spring, the travertine dome later collapsed, and the resulting depression filled with mineral water.

Several kilometres of marked hiking trails run through the municipal area of Vyšné Ružbachy. A tourist information centre is located in the municipal office in the centre of Vyšné Ružbachy. Spa and Culture

The spa area of Vyšné Ružbachy is home to a collection of 104 travertine sculptures by foreign artists. Travertine is therefore associated not only with the Crater, but also with a specific collection in the spa area. The International Sculpture Symposium in Vyšné Ružbachy began in 1964 with a preparatory inaugural year.

The White House of Count Zamoyski was built in 1931 from white travertine in the Biedermeier style and is now a sought-after venue for social events.

Baths

The Vyšné Ružbachy Spa offers mineral-water therapy pools, baths, a sauna, a fitness room, and massage rooms. Another specific water facility is Izabela Thermal Bath. It has two large outdoor pools, two outdoor children's pools, and a covered thermal pool. The pools mentioned therefore differ both in size and location and in their designations.

Getting Around

Marked cycling routes run through the municipal area of Vyšné Ružbachy, including routes towards Kamienka and Nižné Ružbachy. In addition, a new cycling route created in 2018 runs here, connecting spa towns in the border region. In Vyšné Ružbachy, it follows the green route towards Kamienka.
