Rybany: Preserved Villagescape and Sacred Buildings

Rybany preserves the layout of its village square as a ring-shaped settlement with an ear-shaped extension. The preserved villagescape also includes the historic plot structure of the square, with narrow, elongated plots. The surviving residential houses are arranged perpendicular to the square; their façades feature Classicist and Secessionist elements of regional architecture. A typical folk costume is also part of what Rybany preserves. The layout, plot structure, arrangement of the houses, façade design and costume each form distinct components of the village.

Culture

The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Rybany contains a late Baroque altar from the 18th century. It includes a painting of the Assumption of Mary and a smaller Pietà statue. The tower of the same church contains a bell dating from 1519. Thus, one building contains both interior furnishings and an individual historic element of the tower.

The Snímania z kríža Chapel stands in the cemetery of Rybany. It is registered as a national cultural monument under number 12135/1. As a cemetery chapel, it is a late Baroque sacred building from the 18th century with a rounded termination, a small roof turret with a gabled roof and a ribbed vault. In 1969, the interior of the chapel also contained an altar of the Descent from the Cross dating from the late 19th century. The chapel thus combines its architectural form with specific historic furnishings.

Rybany can be reached via Road II/592. It is also accessible via the Trenčín–Chynorany railway line.
