Borčice: Hotels, Manor House, Park and Chapel

Borčice is located in the Ilava Basin on a terrace above the Váh. The town combines a documented medieval history with a manor house, a park, notable trees and a late Baroque chapel.

History

Borčice belonged to the domain of Trenčín Castle and later came into the possession of several noble families. The first written mention of Borčice is dated to 1224 and associated with Skalka Benedictine Abbey. In 1238, Borčice was mentioned under the name Villa Bork. These three historical references give the town a clearly discernible depth in time, without reducing its development to a single era.

Culture

The Kaštieľ Borčice manor house is registered as a national cultural monument, NKP 702/1. The Neoclassical manor house, together with the adjoining park, served as the seat of the Borčice nobility. Villa Bork is closed to the public. Another important historical testimony is the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Borčice, a late Baroque chapel built in 1754. It contains an altar, a crucifix and paintings from the second half of the 18th century.

Nature

The Borčice park was created next to the manor house and was formerly connected to a large orchard. The road divides the Borčice park into a western and an eastern section. A rare Nikko fir grows in the park, with olive-green branches and originating from Japan. A linden tree in Borčice is also among the town’s designated natural features: it is described as being over 500 years old and 25 metres tall. Because of its cultural, landscape, ecological and aesthetic significance, the linden tree was designated a protected tree in 1975. Protection of the linden tree was lifted in 2020.

Routes

The Strečno–Borčice/Nemšová section of the Vážska cyklomagistrála runs along roads. Therefore, its specific route is particularly decisive when classifying this section.

Church

Holy Masses are held in the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Borčice. On 11 September, a Holy Mass was celebrated at the chapel for the church feast.
