History

Construction of Nová Dubnica began in 1951 based on a design developed by the architect Jiří Kroha’s artists’ studio. The socialist model city of Nová Dubnica was built between 1952 and 1956. Its urban layout can still be seen in public spaces today: the main axis of the socialist model city is now Peace Square. The buildings along the boulevard have covered arcades, while the courtyards of the blocks are extensively landscaped and contain orchards.

Culture

Panorex is used exclusively for concerts, entertaining stage programmes, larger social events and exhibitions. The Church of St. Joseph the Worker, “Kostol sv. Jozefa, robotníka”, contains a foundation stone blessed by Pope John Paul II. The recurring town festival Dni mesta Nová Dubnica is also part of the events calendar. The edition taking place on 29 and 30 May 2026 will be held at Mierové námestie in Nová Dubnica and will include music, dance and theatre performances, a children’s programme, games and competitions, a large fire show, craft markets and all-day refreshments.

Sports and Leisure

The athletics track in Nová Dubnica is located at Hviezdoslavova 2 and is open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The track can be used for jogging at the MFK Nová Dubnica stadium. The adjacent tennis courts can also be used by recreational athletes. Kúpalisko Letka Nová Dubnica will open its doors to visitors for the 2026 summer season.

Landscape

The White Carpathians around Nová Dubnica offer opportunities for hiking and cycling. The Vršatské bralá rock formations, with their castle ruins, are particularly popular. Another specific route starts in the Kolačín district: from there, the viewpoint on the 592-metre-high Markovica summit is about an hour’s leisurely walk away.
