Hotels in Veľké Úľany – Culture, Lotos Lake and Cycling Paths

Veľké Úľany is located in the Podunajská nížina between the Čierna Voda and the Malý Dunaj. The Čierna Voda flows through the northern part of the municipality. In this scenic setting, structures from several centuries meet a family recreation area and cycling connections.

Culture

Malá Kalvária is a prominent site of cultural history. It is registered under number 2522 as a cultural monument in the Central List of the National Cultural Monuments of the Slovak Republic. Malá Kalvária was built in 1740, and its chapel was constructed in 1756. The complex includes a pear-shaped atrium, the Chapel of Sedem bolestnej Panny Márie, statues of Panny Márie and sv. Jána evanjelistu erected in 1759, a stone cross from 1775, and chapels of the Stations of the Cross.

The Dom ľudového bývania preserves a different chapter of architectural history. It has a thatched roof, a courtyard, a draw well, and an enclosure dating from the mid-19th century. The building was constructed in 1910 and opened on 1 July 1991 after reconstruction. The exhibition at the Dom ľudového bývania in Veľké Úľany was opened to the public in 1992.

The Roman Catholic Church “Kostol sv. Michala archanjela” also reflects several historical periods of development. Construction began in 1594 in the Renaissance style and, according to the available information, was completed in 1670. The church tower was built in 1718; after 1756, the church was extended with side aisles.

In the centre of Veľké Úľany stands the Kúria, a Classicist building erected by Mikuláš Lacsný in 1828. It is a single-storey building with an L-shaped floor plan and an open arcade passage in the courtyard area of the side wing. The Protestant church in Veľké Úľany was converted in 1958 from an agricultural building of the Pálffyho majera on the initiative of Slovak immigrants, especially from Dolná zem.

Nature

Lotos Lake is a 3.5-hectare family recreation area with a 1.1-hectare lake. Fishing is available there; the lake is home to eight fish species, including carp, crucian carp, grass carp, pike, and catfish, as well as other species. Lotos Lake also offers a mini zoo, a children's playground, and horse riding.

Cycling

Cyclists can use a new route outside the state road. It is 4.89 km long in total, with 2.299 km running along the protective embankment of the Čierna Voda watercourse. Another cycling route connects Veľké Úľany with the industrial park in Sládkovičovo.
