Lehnice: Manor Houses, Church Art and Islands

Lehnice is located in the Podunajská nížina, in the central part of Žitný ostrov. Historic manor houses, ecclesiastical details, islands, a remnant of the original ash-poplar floodplain forest and a clearly described MTB loop route provide different points of reference in the town and its surroundings. The destinations range from Lehnice itself and its surroundings to the wider regional area.

Culture

The new manor house of the Benyovszky family was completed in 1930. It was built in a romantic pseudo-Gothic style modeled on English and Scottish manor houses. Of the older manor house belonging to the same family, the eastern part with an octagonal tower and the remains of the adjoining wings at ground-floor level have been preserved. The park surrounding the manor house covers around 29 hectares.

Individual ecclesiastical furnishings are also among the historical points of reference. A statue of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary stands on the church’s decorative marble altar. An older stone relief is set into the outer enclosing wall of the church sanctuary. In Veľký-Lég, the newer Catholic parish church was built in 1679 on the site of a Gothic church.

Around Lehnice are Pálfiovský kaštieľ as a chateau, Svätý Anton as a monastery and Ostrov as an island. The wider regional area around Lehnice also contains Eberhard and Amadeovský kaštieľ. Eberhard is a chateau, and Amadeovský kaštieľ is also a chateau.

Landscape

The natural area of Lehnice includes a remnant of the original ash-poplar floodplain forest. Ostrov is an island in the surroundings of Lehnice. In the wider regional area are Új-sziget, Laci-sziget and Madarász-sziget; these three destinations are also islands. Thus, the landscape-related points of reference extend across the immediate surroundings and the wider regional area, without equating the individual geographical classifications.

Cycling

The Zelený Potônsky okruh, route number 5225, passes through Lehnice. The route is 45.7 kilometres long and designated as an easy MTB loop route. Its course therefore forms a complete loop and explicitly includes Lehnice.
