Hotel in Veľké Blahovo: Danube arms and Baroque church

Remnants of old Danube arms are still visible in the cadastral territory of Veľké Blahovo. Following their course leads to the present-day Danube. The Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve also extends into the cadastral territory of Veľké Blahovo. It is a representative example of a meandering lowland river with rare aquatic and wetland communities. Protection levels four and five apply in the reserve; it covers a total of 306.44 ha.

Nature and water

The Klátovské rameno area is home to floodplain forests as well as communities of floating or submerged aquatic plants. The protected Plytčiny area is also located in the cadastral territory of Veľké Blahovo. Protected bird species found in Klátovské rameno include the kingfisher, mute swan and little grebe.

The Malý Dunaj educational water trail includes the Veľké Blahovo Small Hydroelectric Power Plant as a named station. At the site of the Veľké Blahovo Small Hydroelectric Power Plant, the standing water and the nearby mouth of the Čierna voda are breeding grounds for waterbirds.

Culture and history

The village is home to the Roman Catholic Church of the Most Holy Trinity, a Baroque building dating from 1761 that was altered in the 20th century. The church has a main altar with a painting of the Most Holy Trinity from 1883. The church grounds contain a family crypt of the Csiba family with a gravestone.

A wayside chapel stands near the Roman Catholic church. The small masonry structure has a triangular floor plan; its semicircular niches contain polychrome images of saints. Ján Bihari was a musician and was born in Veľké Blahovo on 21 October 1764.

Getting there and connections

Veľké Blahovo has had a railway station since 1895. Railway line 131 between Bratislava and Dunajská Streda runs through Veľké Blahovo. The village is connected to the district capital Dunajská Streda and the surrounding municipalities by bus and train services.
