The municipality of Veľká Mača combines local history with archaeological evidence. The Veľká Mača Museum, located next to the municipal office, is a branch of the Museum of Regional History in Galanta. Its archaeological exhibits come mainly from the Mačianske vŕšky site and date from the Middle Stone Age to the Middle Ages.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Veľká Mača was built in 1783 in the Classicist style with Baroque elements. An original medieval stone baptismal font has been preserved inside. A Gothic stone baptismal font in the present-day church building is probably the last remnant of the vanished medieval church of Veľká Mača. The church tower has two bells, while the windows depict saints in stained glass. The Lourdes grotto, built in 1991, is located next to the church.

In the centre of Veľká Mača stands the Trinity Monument, erected in 1860 on the site of the former church. A probably still Romanesque medieval church once stood in the centre of the village near this present-day monument. In front of the museum, a monument commemorates deported and displaced Hungarians.

Several other historical sights are scattered throughout the village: the statue of St. Florian stands next to the kindergarten on Hlavná ulica and was created by the stonemason J. Juhász from Sereď at the beginning of the 20th century. The statue of St. Donatus stands on Cigánska ulica and was erected in 1910 by the local Rosary Association. Near the Protestant cemetery stands the statue of St. Wendelin, erected in 1820 by a local large landowner. In addition, one statue was renovated in 1950.

In addition to the history of settlement, the municipal museum presents the folk traditions and knowledge of the municipality’s natural environment.
