Culture and History

St. Ladislaus Church in Beltinci was built in 1742. It combines Baroque and Neo-Baroque architecture and was redesigned by Max von Ferstl in the 1890s. A side chapel added in 1894 bears the name Ave Maria; the crypt of the Zichy family is located beneath this chapel. Count Zichy had a Venetian fountain built on the south side of the church between 1890 and 1894.

A unique testament to the local history of craftsmanship is the “Slavicova kovačija” forge. It dates from the beginning of the 20th century. Except for the entrance door, the original furnishings, the hearth with bellows and the associated blacksmith’s tools have been preserved.

A folklore group was founded in Beltinci in 1938. It mainly performs dances from the Prekmurje region and continues to preserve wedding and harvest customs. Alongside the buildings, this places a traditional regional form of culture at the centre of attention.

Markovo senje is a traditional event in Beltinci whose origins are traced back to the market rights granted in 1817. In 2019, the almost abandoned tradition was revived and held in the centre of Beltinci on St. Mark’s Day.
