Culture and History
The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Glažuta is registered under EŠD 14882 as an immovable sacred heritage building. A second historical focal point is the former Glažuta glassworks. Its name recalls a facility that Prince Karl Auersperg had built around 1835 in the forest along the road from Grčarice to Loški Potok. At first, the glassworks produced flat glass, and later curved glass. It also had the first steam boiler in Carniola, which was used to power a grinding facility.
The remains of the former Glažuta glassworks are located on the left side of the forest road, about 300 metres from the junction. At this junction in Glažuta, a turn branches south toward Perhajmska koča and the Medvednica forest hut. The location connects the historical trace of the glassworks with a clearly designated section of the local trail network, without equating the former facility with a present-day operation.
The Ogenjca Partisan hospital is also one of the historical sites in the area around Glažuta. It lies in the forest on the road between Hrib and Glažuta. Founded during the Roška Offensive in July 1942, it was the first Partisan hospital in Notranjska. The hospital, located in a karst cave, was declared a cultural monument with the characteristics of a historical monument in 2000. The memorial heritage of Glažuta also includes the communal grave of fallen Partisans on Debeli vrh, registered under EŠD 22534.
Hiking
The Velika Kočevska planinska pot runs via the former Glažuta forestry centre and continues through Grčarice. On this route, Glažuta is checkpoint KT17 at an elevation of 770 metres. From Glažuta to Jasnica, the Velika Kočevska planinska pot shares its route with the Ribniška planinska pot. Thus, for this section, both the former location of the forestry centre and a precisely named checkpoint, as well as the connection to another named route, are documented.
Mountain Biking Routes
Glažuta is also part of the Slovenian Mountain Bike Trail. On Stage 20, the route continues by bike toward Glažuta after Jelenov Žleb; on the same stage, Glažuta is listed as a point of interest. The stage follows a gravel road to the village of Grčarice. In addition, the Kočevska Reka–Loški Potok route runs mostly along gravel roads and cart tracks. Thus, at the place name Glažuta, historical glass production, designated waypoints, and different trail surfaces come together along the routes described.
